THE HEARTBROKEN family of John Potts say killer Gordon Robson’s sentence will “never be enough”.

The 45-year-old dad had been trying to break up trouble outside the NE38 sports bar in Washington when he was killed with one blow from Gordon.

Mr Potts’ widow Sarah issued a statement on behalf of the family, which said: “We are a devastated family, everyday we relive what has happened.

“They say that time heals all, our family and friends have yet to even start to heal.

“The pain that we are suffering in losing John cannot be put into words. It’s unimaginable. It’s knowing that he has been taken away from us all by the conscious actions of another person. That’s horrific. That morning I knew that my life would never be the same again.

“I’m in a dark lonely place. The family are in a constant state of sorrow, day in day out.

“I didn’t just lose a loving husband, our family lost its devoted dad, brother, a trusted friend to all who knew him. Our families have been left empty without him.

“Robson will say he’s remorseful but that will only be for himself. Any sentence that is given to him will never be enough for what he has done to all our families.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fairlamb, from Northumbria Police’s Major Crime Team, said: “This case illustrates the inherent danger of people behaving in a violent manner which can very quickly get out of hand and result in a fatality.

“The family of John Potts have been left devastated by what happened and Robson is now facing a time in prison as a result of his actions.

“I’d like to thank Mr Pott’s family for their dignity throughout this investigation and hope that the end of this trial means, they can begin to move on.”
