AN internet paedophile who travelled 200 miles to abuse a schoolboy he groomed online has been jailed for four years.
Over a period of just days, Richard Hall, pictured, convinced his 14-year-old victim he was in love with him and arranged a trip to Wearside from his home in the West Midlands, to coincide with school holidays.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the 30-year-old dad, who had a long-term, female partner, booked into the hotel where he ordered the boy to engage in a sex act during the two-day trip.
Sentencing him, Judge Penny Moreland said: “He (the victim) is a boy who was 14 when you met him in a chat room online. I’m satisfied that that was for sexual activity.
“You spent two days in this area on 11 and 12 April last year.
“He was a child and you knew that.
“You were the adult responsible for the boundaries of the relationship.
“As a result of what you did to him he has suffered distress, shame and guilt.”
During a five-day trial Hall, of St Giles Court, Rowley Regis, denied meeting a child after sexual grooming, and two charges of sexual activity with a child.
After just over two hours deliberation by the jur,y he was found guilty of the grooming charge and one offence of sexual activity with a child.
He was found not guilty of one charge of sexual activity with a child.
Hall was also given a five-year sexual prevention order.
