Jail for knifeman who pulled out blade during Sunderland city centre run-in

A MAN who produced a knife during a city centre row has been jailed.

David McCamley pulled a multi-tool, with the blade extended, out of his pocket during a run-in at Park Lane, Sunderland, last April.

During the incident, the 33-year-old warned there would be “trouble”.

He tried to flee when a police car was flagged down by worried witnesses.

McCamley, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to having an offensive weapon.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Simon Hickey sentenced him to 16 months in jail.

He said: “Deterrent sentences are right. I am afraid there has to be an immediate prison sentence for people carrying knives in public.”

Tony Davis, defending, said McCamley was homeless at the time and has not been in trouble since.
