In defence of escort

Have your say

A NEW police chief has defended a decision to give his predecessor an escort to work on his last day before he retired.

Jon Stoddart stood down from Durham police on October 3, and was given the escort from his Whitley Bay home to the force’s headquarters in Durham.

The trip has been criticised as being a waste of taxpayers’ cash, but Chief Constable Mike Barton said the motorcycle unit has to practise convoy work and he asked if it could escort Mr Stoddart, with the idea one which offered value for money.
