A DRUNK woman was arrested after she was seen pulling items from the shelves and throwing them to the floor in the entertainments aisle of Tesco.

Marie Clark, 52, was detained by police called to Tesco Extra at Roker Retail Park on April 24, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Lee Poppett said staff had asked for assistance, saying a female had become abusive in the entertainments aisle at about 1pm.

“She was seen removing items from shelves and throwing them to the ground,”

Mr Poppett said. “The item were not damaged. “When officers arrived she was leaning on the display.”

Clark then continuously shouted abuse and when she did not stop when warned to do so, she was arrested.

Clark, of Churchill Avenue, Southwick, admitted being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Representing herself in court, she told the magistrates she had suffered a bereavement two years ago, adding: “I’d had a good drink.”

Clark was fined £80, with £85 costs, a £15 surcharge and a £150 minimum court charge.
