CAR thieves stole two cars from the same Wearside street within hours of each other.

The thieves first struck at Waskerley Road, in Barmston, between 2.15pm on Saturday and 10am yesterday when a silver Mitsubishi Lancer was stolen from outside a house.

Yesterday night, police received another report that a silver and blue Mitsubishi Pajero had been stolen from the same street between 8pm and 8.50pm that day.

In the second theft, a black recovery truck with yellow writing on the roof was seen towing the car away.

Officers are now urging anyone who sees a similar vehicle to write down the registration number and pass it on to police.

Acting Neighbourhood Inspector Lee Butler said: “We’re carrying out inquiries to locate the vehicle and trace those responsible.

“We want to hear from anyone who was in Waskerley Road over the weekend and saw anything, in particular if they saw the recovery truck.

“We’re also asking anyone who sees a black recovery truck with yellow writing on the roof to make a note of the registration number and contact us.

“If anyone is offered these vehicles for sale, they should get in contact as they may be able to help us trace the offenders.”

The Mitsubishi Lancer has registration plate of NY05 RAU and the Pajero is N242 TRY.

Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police on 101 ex 69191 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
