Hunt for Halloween-masked robber after hammer raid on Sunderland store

A ROBBER in a Halloween mask threatened a shop assistant with a hammer.

The robbery took place at 6.16am this morning when a man wearing a grey hooded top and Halloween mask entered the Hylton Road News store in Hylton Road armed a hammer.

He stole an amount of cash from the till and some cigarettes before making off from the shop.

The staff members were left shaken but unhurt during the incident.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who was in Hylton Road on Tuesday morning and who saw anything to contact them.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who might have seen a man in a grey hooded top and who may have been on a bike leaving the area around the time of the robbery.

Extra officers are in the area this morning carrying out patrols and speaking to witnesses.
