MASKED robbers who styled themselves as horror film characters are still evading police.

Officers in Durham have renewed their appeal for information a month after a robbery at a newsagent’s.

Two men clad in Tobin Bell masks, as featured in the film Saw, took cash from McColl’s in Alnwick Road, Newton Hall, Durham City on Thursday, May 5.

Then incident, which happened at about 9.45pm, saw the men threaten staff with what appeared to be blades before making off with the cash.

The men were wearing blue-and-white lumberjack-style checked shirts and dark trousers.

Dc Steve Barrow of Durham City CID said: “Someone out there may have information that would assist in identifying those who committed this crime and we would encourage them to come forward.

“The masks worn by the robbers are very distinctive and the response from the general public so far has been encouraging.

“But we are still looking for further information. Anything at all, no matter how insignificant, may help us catch the perpetrators and bring them to justice.”
