A GROOM who glassed a male guest in the face with a pint glass at his own wedding reception, hours after his wife gave birth to his child, has been spared jail.
Karl Storey’s life turned into a real life wedding from hell as one attendee turned nasty and a mass fight erupted.
Newcastle Crown Court heard, Karl Storey, 26, was celebrating with his newly-wed partner, friends and family at the Anglers Arms, Kielder, when he noticed his brother, Dale Storey, 20, being confronted by one of the guests.
Karl Storey intervened by striking a glass over the head of the complainant, leading to a brawl between both brothers and the infuriated guest. His victim received six or seven small cuts to his eye and was taken to hospital that night.
Karl Storey, of Greencroft Avenue, Haltwhistle, pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding, and Dale Storey, of King’s Place, Sunderland pleaded guilty to common assault.
Ms Recorder Turner, sentenced Karl Storey to a 12-month suspended sentence, with an 160 unpaid-work requirement and a compensation charge of £500.
The judge sentenced Dale Storey to a 12-month community order with 100 hours unpaid work requirement and a compensation charge of £100.
