A GOOD Samaritan stepped in to help tragic dad David Charlton when he came under deadly attack, murder jurors have heard.

Michael Strange saw two men throwing punches at the 25-year-old Nissan worker in South Shields last year.

When the passer-by realised Mr Charlton was seriously injured, he put him in the recovery position.

Keith Honeyman, of Alice Street, South Shields, has admitted murder.

A 16-year-old defendant and Paul Carr, 31, of Hudson Street in the town, deny the murdering Mr Charlton and are being tried by a jury.
