Gentoo warns tenants to turn away flytipping scammers after conmen knock on doors

Residents have been warned to be alert over a scam which has led conmen claiming to work for a landlord to instead tip flytipped waste.

Gentoo has issued the advice to tenants in the Washington area, after reports men posing as its workers had taken cash to remove bulky items from their homes.

The waste was then found dumped.

The company has said all its workers carry ID, including its grounds maintenance and flytipping teams.

It added: “We would never ask you for a cash payment.

“We are not offering this service at this time and we do not have any plans to do so in the immediate future.

“Please be vigilant and do not hand over any money to these men.”

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of the conmen has been asked to get in touch with Gentoo.
