A police appeal has been launched after a man was attacked by a gang in Sunderland.

The 22-year-old was walking home along Beatty Avenue in Town End Farm when he was assaulted by three men.

He was punched to the floor and kicked in the face causing injuries.

He was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital and released following treatment.

The attack happened between 3am and 3.30am on Saturday August 27.

The men are described as white. The first is 5 feet 11, skinny, with black hair and a blue polo shirt

The second, 5 feet 6, skinny and was wearing a baseball cap. The third is 6 feet 2, stocky with light coloured hair and wearing a grey/blue polo shirt.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact them.
