DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after a “distressing incident” at a service station.

Up to three men were seen pushing around the victim on the forecourt of the New Seaham Service Station, in Stockton Road, Seaham.

It is understood the men arrived in a blue Audi car, with “cash for cars” written along the side, before threatening the man, who is in his 20s, and chasing him around the forecourt.

They were then spotted entering the garage.

Detective Sergeant Cliff Down, of Seaham CID, is appealing for witnesses to the “distressing incident”, which happened at about 6pm on Wednesday – including a woman who was filling up a blue Citroën Picasso.

Four men were arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries. No further action will be taken against a fifth man who was arrested.
