A BOGUS police officer has swindled pensioners out of cash.
The man claimed to from police in London and convinced two elderly people from Durham to move money between accounts by saying the victims’ accounts were unsafe.
Thousands of pounds were then siphoned off electronically.
Durham Constabulary is trying to trace the cash. Detective Sergeant Martin Wilson said: “The police would never ring members of public asking for bank details or ask them to transfer money from their accounts.”
Similar incidents have been reported in the Northumbria Police area, with anyone with information asked to call 101
