East Durham thug jailed for 'appalling assault' on Sunderland police officer

Kevin James Langan is beginning nearly a year in prison after admitting carrying out the attack and two other offences.
Langan, 32, of Seventh Street, Horden, assaulted the male officer in Sunderland earlier this month.

Hide AdHe also pleaded guilty to twice breaching a crown court restraining order imposed more than three years ago by visiting a property in the Town End Farm area of the city.
Documents issued by South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court say he was jailed for a “repeated breaches of the same restraining order against the same victim and an appalling assault on the emergency worker”.
Details of any injuries suffered by the police officer on June 18 have still to be revealed.
Langan was jailed for 26 weeks for the assault, another 10 weeks for breaching the restraining order on the same day and a further 12 weeks for flouting the same restrictions three days later.

Hide AdTwo charges of breaching the 2017 restraining order on June 19 and June 20 were dismissed during his appearance at the South Shields court by video link on June 24.
Langan’s guilty pleas were taken into account while determining his sentence.
He must also pay £150 compensation to the officer he assaulted and was ordered by the court to begin payments at a rate of £20 per month from the beginning of February next year.
