Durham policeman charged with assaulting man who was being held at Peterlee

A DURHAM police officer and member of staff have been accused of beating a man while in custody.

Sergeant Stephen Harvey, 50, and Detention Officer Michael Mount, 60, are alleged to have assaulted a 47-year-old man who was being held in custody at Peterlee Police Station on March 5.

Both men have been charged with two counts of assault by beating.

They are due to appear before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on October 5.
