Durham man dies after being struck by car

A MAN believed to have been lying in the road has died after he was hit by a car.

The tragedy happened in Southend, South Road, Durham, shortly before 10.30pm last night.

A Vauxhall Corsa car travelling north along South Road collided with the pedestrian, a 34-year-old man from Garden Lane in the city.

The Corsa driver, a 31-year-old woman from Sunniside, and her passenger, a 36-year-old man from Bishop Auckland, were not injured.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or has any information about it to contact them directly on 375 2159 or ring 101 and ask for the road policing unit.
