A dad spat in a police officer’s eye after losing his temper while drunk at the Foo Fighters’ Stadium of Light concert.

Craig Andrew Larkin, 30, fell and hit his head while watching the American rockers, he was taken to a medical tent for treatment where he became abusive, which is when officers arrived at the scene.

This is one of the most degrading things a person can do to another person.

“He has thrown his mobile phone while in the tent,” prosecutor Lee Poppet told a hearing at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court.

“He appeared to be drunk, unstable on his feet and slurring his words.”

Larkin then swore at police officers before spitting in a male officer’s face.

In a statement read out in court by Mr Poppett, the officer said: “This is one of the most degrading things a person can do to another person.”

Tony Southwick, defending Larkin, who pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer, said: “This is something which is completely out of character.

“The defendant who appears before you has three disabled children.

“He works 50 hours each week.

“He was out with friends and they had been drinking for six or seven hours. He has no recollection at all of the incident.”

Chairman of the bench David Kent handed Larkin, of Birch Terrace, Walker, Newcastle, a £450 fine and a criminal court charge of £150, while also ordering him to pay £85 costs, a £30 victim surcharge and £100 compensation to the officer who he spat at.
