Drugs cash to be used for family fun day

CASH seized as part of a drug operation has been used to host a family fun day.

The £5,000 recovered by Durham Constabulary using the Proceeds of Crime Act has been donated to Laurel Avenue Children’s Centre in Gilesgate to help pay for the celebrations today, as well as on-going work with children and families at the centre.

The money was seized from Andrew Thomas Cairns, 41, of the Sherburn Road Estate, who is serving a four year and nine month jail term for drugs-related offences.

The centre brings together Durham County Council and the NHS to offer free advice and support to children, young people, parents and carers.
