A DRUG user was found to be dealing because of text messages found on his mobile phone.

Police found a small amount of cannabis when they raided Jonathan Young’s Washington home in July last year.

Newcastle Crown Court heard there was nothing to link the 23-year-old to dealing until messages on his two mobiles showed he had been selling cannabis and Ecstasy to pals.

Prosecutor Emma Dowling told the court: “In the messages there are references to Ecstasy on more than one occasion, but it does appear he sold more cannabis than Ecstasy.

“The amounts mentioned are consistent with low level street dealing.”

Judge Penny Moreland sentenced Young to two years’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with 250 hours’ unpaid work and a three-month Saturday night curfew.

Young, of Richmond Avenue, Washington Village, admitted possessing cannabis and offering to supply cannabis and Ecstasy.
