Driver admits killing Sunderland motorcyclist in County Durham crash

A DRIVER admitted killing a Sunderland motorcyclist in a road smash in rural County Durham.

Neil Hamilton, 60, of Offerton Close, South Hylton, died when his motorbike was in a collision with a Mitsubishi 4x4 driven by Anthony Shelton.

Durham Crown Court heard the incident happened on April 3 on the B6301 between Tow Law and Lanchester.

Shelton, 51, of Castle View, Esh Winning, pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

He pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving.

Judge Christopher Prince adjourned the case for a trial on February 19 next year.

The judge told Shelton: “It will be for a jury to determine if your driving was careless or dangerous.”

Shelton was released on unconditional bail.
