‘Don’t buy into Christmas crime’ – police message to Sunderland during festive crackdown on thieves

WEARSIDERS are being urged not to buy into crime this Christmas.

As part of Operation Soundwave – a winter campaign tackling burglary in the run up to Christmas – police are targeting those who buy or sell on stolen goods.

Assistant Chief Constable Jo Farrell, of Northumbria Police, said: “Burglary is devastating for residents and it’s a continual priority for police to do everything possible to take strong action against criminals. Combatting the handling of stolen goods goes hand-in-hand with preventing burglary.

“All retailers, particularly pawnbrokers and second-hand goods shops, should be vigilant when it comes to taking in items and should contact police immediately if they notice anything suspicious.

“Similarly, people should be wary of anyone selling cut price goods in pubs or on the streets.”
