A WOMAN has been raped as she walked her dog on a Wearside beach.

Police said the 20-year-old was walking her pet along the beach in Hendon with a man when the attack is said to have taken place.

It is believed that the woman was taking a stroll with the man when he pushed her to the ground and raped her.

After the attack, the man and woman are believed to have left the scene together.

The relationship between the offender and the victim is not known at this stage, and there have been no arrests.

Investigating officers are now trying to trace witnesses to the attack.

They would like to speak to a man who was walking his dog along the beach at the time.

There was also thought to be two men using quad bikes in the area who may have seen what happened.

The rape took place on Thursday between 4.30pm and 5pm.
