A DESIGNER handbag, belt and jacket have been stolen from a car in Sunderland.
Thieves stole a Louis Vuitton handbag, Gucci belt and Ralph Lauren jacket from an unlocked VW Touareg V6 vehicle, parked in Guisborough Street, on Monday morning.
Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Laverick said the theft was a warning of the need to keep cars locked and valuables hidden.
“We want to remind motorists to take a few minutes to make sure your property is not left out in plain view but put away out of sight in a boot and that vehicles are locked when you park up,” she said.
“These simple measures can reduce your risk of falling victim to a thief.
“We know opportunist thieves look to take advantage by trying door handles of vehicles to find those left unlocked. Don’t make it easy for them. Also if you do see someone acting suspiciously around parked cars then please ring the police straightaway - you could help to prevent a crime.”
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact them on 101, extension 69191, quoting log number 455 of 06/10/14 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
