A DERELICT school was targeted in an early morning arson attack.
Crews of firefighters from Seaham and Peterlee were called to the former Easington Colliery Junior School, in Seaside Lane, at 1.25am yesterday, after the fire was spotted on the first floor.
Officers broke into the boarded-up building to reach the old classroom and put out the blaze.
Police were called to arrange for it to be secured.
An investigation is to be carried out into another suspected arson, tackled by the same Peterlee firefighters.
Two sheds were completely wrecked and a third partly damaged at allotments in Milton Grove, Shotton Colliery, at 6.30pm on Sunday.
