‘Dangerous’ drugs used in animal sedation have been stolen from a vets practice in Seaham after suspects broke into two safes.

A police investigation is under way after suspects broke into Westway Vets, in Church Street, overnight on Sunday, February 16.

Staff turned up to work on Monday morning to find two safes have been broken into with cash and drugs, which are used in animal sedation, had been taken.

The drugs included tramadol, lidocaine, adrenaline and apamorphine.

Extra security measures have now been put in place at the vets.

Detective Constable John Forster said: “These drugs could prove very dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands or are unwittingly taken without a person knowing what they are.

“We would encourage anyone with information to come forward urgently before any further harm is done.”
