A MAN admitted dangerous driving in a stolen car and trying to steal another.

John Campbell was chased by police on the A690 through Durham City in a stolen Vauxhall Vectra, Durham Crown Court heard.

He and two accomplices had earlier tried to steal a Nissan car outside a house in Newton Hall.

Campbell, 45, of Osbourne Street, Fulwell, admitted dangerous driving, attempted theft, and driving with excess alcohol, all on February 5 last year.

Paul Currer, defending, said Campbell had been recalled to prison for seven months to serve the balance of a previous sentence for burglary.

The Recorder, Mr Peter Makepeace, adjourned passing sentence for the preparation of probation and psychiatric reports.

Campbell was given conditional bail.
