A DAD hurled a dinner plate towards his girlfriend during a drunken argument, smashing it against a wall.

Anthony Hutchinson, 32, had been drinking at the family home in Pennywell on April 22, when he lost his temper, Sunderland magistrates heard

“He threw a dinner plate at her,” prosecutor Sue Baker said. “It missed her and smashed against the wall. He then grabs her by the throat and pushes her towards the stairs. At that point a relative returns with the children and this brings the incident to an end.”

Hutchinson, of Palmerston Road, admitted assault. In 2010 he was cautioned for assaulting the same victim.

Jason Smith, defending, said the pair had been drinking when the victim said something “to wind him up” which made him “snap”.

“The relationship is anything but over,” Mr Smith added. “He is back in the family home.”

He was given an 18-month community order, 40 hours of unpaid work and £295 costs.
