A cyclist has been taken to hospital after being struck by a van in a suspected hit and run.

The incident happened on the A691 between Lanchester and Langley Park, at about 7.15am on Thursday, April 16.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that the cyclist was hit by a white Ford Transit van and taken to University Hospital of North Durham with non-life-threatening injuries.

A force spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information to trace a van involved in a suspected hit and run this morning.

The incident happened on the A691 between Lanchester and Langley Park, Durham.

“Officers received reports of an incident on the A691 between Lanchester and Langley Park, at about 7.15am.

“A cyclist was struck by what officers believe was a new-style, post-2013 design, white Ford Transit.

“The victim was taken to University Hospital of North Durham with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

“The nearside wing mirror of the van was smashed in the incident.”
