A MAN accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend and her new partner will have his case heard at crown court.
Jonathan Hughes allegedly punched the woman – who is the mother to his six-year-old son – outside her home in Kitchener Terrace, Grangetown, Sunderland, at about 10pm on Sunday.
The 28-year-old is then said to have punched her new boyfriend to the ground, before stamping on his head.
Hughes, of Corporation Road, Hendon, Sunderland, appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing a charge of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
He did not enter a plea, and the court heard the allegations are so serious that they must be heard at Newcastle Crown Court.
Hughes will appear at Newcastle on October 8.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said the victim remains in a critical but stable condition.
