DOZENS of people gathered this evening to pay their final respects to murdered businessman Tipu Sultan.
The Sunderland dad-of-two was shot at the rear of his family business Herbs & Spice Kitchen in Lake Avenue, South Shields, just before 10pm on Tuesday, April 7.
Representatives of the Wearside Bangladeshi community joined local residents and members of Mr Sultan’s family this evening to lay flowers and hold a minute’s silence in his memory.
Organiser Lolan Amin was delighted with the response from all sides of the community.
“The intention was to get the whole community to come together, not just the Bangladeshi community, but everyone,” he said.
“So I am very pleased that so many people have come here this evening from all backgrounds.
“This tragedy has really united us all.”
A funeral service for Mr Sultan is due to be held at Sunderland’s Bangladeshi Community Centre tomorrow afternoon.
