Court Round-up: Assaulting a police officer, drug-driving and stealing scrap metal among Sunderland cases dealt with by magistrates

Liam James Askew, 34, of Keighley Avenue, Downhill, pleaded guilty to assault, two charges of obstructing a police officer and possession of amphetamine. He was given a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £122 surcharge.

George Jason Ewart, 32, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal damage in Sunderland and one of assault. He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £275 in compensation.

Sophie Ross, 23, of Toward Road, Sunderland, was given a six-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a surcharge of £21 after she pleaded guilty to criminal damage.

Harvey Weedy, 18, of Fenwick Street, Boldon Colliery, was given a 12-month conditional discharge after pleading guilty to criminal damage. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £21 surcharge.

Jude Carradice Lamond, 18, of Hewitt Avenue, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and was given a 12-month conditional discharge. He was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £21 surcharge.

Nicholas Churchman, 31, of Eden Hill Road, Peterlee, admitted two charges of drug driving and was fined £120. He was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £31 surcharge.

Grant Foster, 38, of Central Avenue, Whitburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol, without a licence and without insurance and was banned from driving for 18 months. He was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £31 surcharge.

Lee Thomas Kennedy, 31, of Barclay Street, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to two charges of assaulting a police officer. He was given an 18-month community order and told to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

Wayne Robert Ryan, 31, of Brick Garth, Easington Lane, pleaded guilty to theft of scrap metal and breaching a suspended sentence order. He was given a 12-month community order and fined £30 and told to pay £100 in compensation.

Samantha Hunnam, 29, of Tilbury Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. She was banned from driving for 24 months and given a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

Billy Carter, 35, of Dinsdale Street, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to two charges of threatening behaviour, two of damaging a police cell and a charge of failing to surrender to court. He was fined £120 and given a six-month community order. He was told to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

Mark Coombes, 47, of Hedworth Court, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to persistently using electronic communications causing anxiety. He was given a 12-month community order and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £21 surcharge.

Charlotte Davies, 49, of Hylton Street, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to persistently using electronic communications causing anxiety. She was given a six-month community order and told to pay £85 costs and a £90 surcharge.

Thomas John Jefferson, 26, of Orr Avenue, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to fraud. He was ordered to pay £3,000 in compensation and given a 12-month community order.
