A CONTRACTOR working away had been drinking when he sat on a parked motorbike outside his hotel, causing it to topple over.

Police were called to the Travelodge, at Ashford Eureka Leisure Park, in Kent, at 4am on May 14 last year.

Staff had seen Anthony Richardson, 31, knock over a BMW R1200 motorbike, leaving it scratched and dented after he jumped on it, Sunderland magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Paul Anderson said Richardson told officers he had not intended to cause damage.

“Staff saw him take pictures of himself and his friends,” he said. “It was a folly that went sadly wrong, and caused £400 of damage to the bike.”

Richardson, of Trevelyan Close, in Thorney Close, admitted criminal damage. He was was given a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay £400 compensation.
