AN AMATEUR boxer who was bailed by magistrates one day has been locked up by a judge a day later.

Declan Fusco, pictured, appeared before Peterlee magistrates on Monday in connection with an alleged attack on a woman.

Fusco was before Durham Crown Court yesterday after prosecutors appealed the granting of bail.

In a hearing not open to the public, Judge Christopher Prince remanded Fusco in custody.

The 22-year-old, of Rydal Crescent, Peterlee, is charged with harassment and two counts of common assault between February and this month.

He is due before Durham Crown Court again today to answer separate allegations which stem from an alleged fight in a pub.

Fusco is a former student at East Durham College.

He boxes for South Durham Amateur Boxing Club and hopes to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Scotland next year.
