THIEVES burgled two lock-up garages and took bags of donated goods meant to raise money for charities.

The bags, which had shoes and other gifts in them, were taken from garages at the Beyond Ourselves store, in Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, Durham City.

The garages were broken into in the 10 days to last Tuesday, when administrator Dave Bulman discovered the theft.

He said: “The paid and volunteer staff, as well as our loyal customers, are extremely upset by what’s happened.”

Goods belonging to Emmanuel Church Durham were also taken.

They included a trailer and a hand-made wooden lectern.

Mr Bulman added: “Hours of hard work have literally disappeared overnight and, in these difficult financial times, our loyal customers are going to be denied the opportunity to purchase some of these superb items.”

Donations at the store can be left Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm.

Those with information on the theft should call Durham Police on 03456 60 60 365.
