CCTV released after £700 worth of designer sunglasses are stolen from Tesco in Sunderland

Police investigating a series of thefts from a supermarket have released CCTV footage showing a man they would like to trace.

Officers are investigating reported thefts at Tesco Extra in Roker, Sunderland.

Thefts of designer sunglasses have been reported on the evenings of January 2 and January 13.

On both occasions, a man has entered the Vision Express store which is withing the Tesco Extra and stole a number of designer sunglasses. The estimated value of items stolen is thought to be more than £700.

An investigation has been launched into the incidents, which officers believe to be linked, and police have now identified a man they would like to trace.

PC Peter Baker, of Northumbria Police, said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries into the reported thefts, and after tracking CCTV footage, we have now identified a man who we would like to speak to in connection with the incidents.

“We are now asking the public to come forward if they identify the man in question and assist us with our enquiries.

“Shoplifting is increasingly being dealt with by security at shops themselves, but we are committed to taking robust action against those who persistently re-offend and show a total disregard to those who live and work in the city.”
