CCTV image released of cyclist after groping incidents

POLICE investigating a report of an indecent assault on a teenager in Sunderland have released a CCTV image of a man they need to speak to.

It happened at 2.50pm, on Tuesday, March 25, as the 17-year-old girl was walking at Herrington Burn in Houghton, when she was approached by a man on a bike.

The offender cycled alongside the victim and touched her over the top of her clothing before cycling away from the area. The woman was shocked following the incident but was not injured.

The suspect is described as white, aged about 30 years old, of slim build. He was wearing a high vis jacket and a black cycle helmet. Police have released CCTV images of a man they need to trace who they believe can help with the investigation.

Anyone who recognises him or who has information avbout the indecent assault – which it’s believed is linked to other similar incidents which have happened in the same area over recent months – is asked to get in touch with police.

Neighbourhood Inspector Lisa Musgrove said: “We’ve now got a CCTV image from the area of the offence which shows a man on a bike, wearing a cycle helmet and a high vis jacket who we need to speak to as soon as possible.

“Enquiries are ongoing into these incidents and extra patrols are being carried out to reassure residents, gather information and trace the man responsible.

“I’d urge anyone with information, who sees a man of this description or knows who the man in the CCTV image is to contact police straight away.”
