Police today released an image of a man they wish to speak to after a serious assault in Newcastle city centre.

At about 2.30am on Wednesday, September 13, a man was celebrating his 33rd birthday in the Eazy Street bar opposite Times Square.

As he and his friends were preparing to leave, the victim was approached by a man and punched in the face.

He needed hospital treatment, where it was found he had a suspected fractured eye socket.

Inquiries to identify the man responsible are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault to get in touch.

Police released an image of a man they wish to speak to about the assault.

He was in the bar at the time and they believe he may be able to assist their inquiries.

The man, or anyone who knows him, should contact police on 101 quoting log 269 13/09/17.
