CARAVANS worth thousands of pounds have been stolen on Wearside.

Police are appealing for information to help catch the thieves and are warning other owners to be vigilant.

Between 5.45am and 6.15am last Thursday, a Swift Alpine caravan was stolen from a house in Mere Knolls Road, Fulwell, Sunderland.

On Wednesday this week, a white and cream Abbi Jubilee caravan was taken from a house in Pauline Avenue, Fulwell, at 11.40am.

Inquiries into the thefts are ongoing, and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously around the caravans or an unusual vehicle in the area towing them away.

Caravan owners are also urged to make sure their vans are secure by using a wheel clamp when stored on a driveway.

Police are advising people to store their caravans in a secure compound when not in use where possible.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, ext. 69191, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
