Car owners targeted with 100 offenders netted in one month

ALMOST 100 vehicle owners were punished for road-related offences in a month-long operation by a policing team.

The Road Policing Unit’s Special Constabulary ran their second Impact event in Chester-le-Street in May, targeting antisocial use of vehicles, speeding and vehicle-related crimes.

In total, 98 vehicles were dealt with for offences, including tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, with 21 given a warning notice for driving in an antisocial way, one given a cannabis warning and two motorists given notices to repair their cars.

A total of 56 were given warnings and advice.
