Cannabis farm with 250 plants shut down by police

A CANNABIS farm made up of 250 plants has been shut down by police.

Officers swooped on an address in Londonderry Terrace, Easington Colliery, and found 242 cannabis plants after receiving a tip-off.

A 31-year-old man has been charged with production of the Class B drug.

A spokesman for Seaham and Easington’s neighbourhood policing team said: “An address in Easington was searched after information received from a member of the public who believed the property contained cannabis plants.

“Officers searched the address and 242 cannabis plants were found and taken from the address.

“One male has been arrested and has been remanded in custody for cultivation of cannabis and extraction of electricity.

“This arrest has come about due to information received from a member of public.

“We are committed to driving out drug dealers, but the help of the community is important.

“If you have any information regarding similar issues please pass it onto officers. It will be acted upon but kept confidential.”
