Cannabis farm uncovered by police as they respond to reports of assault

Durham Constabulary officers were called to a report of an alleged assault in Chester-le-Street shortly after 11.30am yesterday, Thursday, March 5.

A man was taken to hospital for facial injuries and, during the investigation, a number of cannabis plants – believed to be 15 to 20 – were discovered at an address in The Avenues area.

A man in his mid-20s was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of cannabis and has been released under investigation pending inquiries.

Officers have warned it is unlawful to cultivate cannabis, possess a controlled drug, have it with the intent of supplying it or allow premises to be used for the smoking of cannabis.
