METAL thieves stole five metres of cable.

Raiders struck sometime between 9pm and 9.30pm on Tuesday from the Orange site in Burdon Lane in Ryhope, Sunderland.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the theft or has information.

Scrap metal yards are also urged to be vigilant and ensure the origin of the metal they are trading is genuine.

Neighbourhood Inspector Jamie Southwell said: “The neighbourhood policing team works closely with scrap metal yards throughout the area to make it even more difficult for thieves stealing metal to profit from the theft.

“If anyone has any information about this theft from Burdon Lane we’d urge them to get in contact.”

Any witnesses should contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
