Bus services diverted as emergency services called to two-vehicle crash

Emergency services have been called to a two-vehicle crash which has caused bus services to be diverted.

Northumbria Police have confirmed the incident took place on Bedale Street in Hetton at 11.25am today, Monday, December 30.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area while emergency services are at the scene.

Police spokesman for the force said: “Police were called at 11.25am to a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Bedale Street in Hetton.

“Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.”

Meanwhile Go North East has reported that some of its services are being diverted away from the scene.

In a Tweet the operator said: “We're unable to serve Peat Carr Estate in Hetton on service 35 due to an accident.

“Buses are operating between Hetton and Low Moorsley using Moorsley Road. Please use stops on Moorsley Road to catch your bus.”

A North East Ambulance spokeswoman said: “We were called to a report of a road traffic collision on Bedale Street in Hetton at 11.23am this morning and one patient made their own way to hospital.”
