Officers rushed to Seventh Street, in Horden, after a tip off that a “group of youths” were attempting a break in at around 8.45pm on Monday, August 24.

A Peterlee Police statement said: “Although the suspects left the scene as officers arrived, a search of the address revealed a sizeable cannabis farm in the early stages of construction, along with around 25 plants.

“Nipping the crime swiftly in the bud, officers seized the plants and equipment, and an investigation to identify the parties involved in both the burglary and cultivation offences is under way.
