Burglars steal sentimental jewellery from elderly woman's home in Sunderland

Northumbria Police has issued an appeal following the incident, which took place at an address in Woodside.

Criminals struck at the home of an elderly lady, who had been out for just a few hours when burglars forced entry to her property and stole a range of expensive items.

These included a gold box chain, a diamond and emerald ring and an old brass jewellery box from the 1920s.

Bank cards were also stolen and then used at various locations across Houghton and Hetton.

Police have now identified a man they would like to speak to in connection with their inquiries. He was in the same location as when one of the stolen cards was used.

The incident happened shortly before 11pm on Sunday, November 17.
