A VICIOUS attacker bound, gagged and sexually assaulted a woman after creeping into her bedroom as she slept.
Wearsider David Simms, who was armed with a knife, put a blanket over the woman’s head before subjecting her to a brutal beating and tying her up.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the victim was subjected to a horrifying sex attack while her hands were bound with a mobile phone cable and a shoelace was tied tight around her neck.
The woman managed to flee the brutal assault by escaping through a window and ran bleeding and screaming through the streets for help.
Prosecutor Amanda Rippon told Newcastle Crown Court: “A member of the public found her.
“He took his coat and wrapped her in it so she had something over her.
“She was described as being extremely, extremely distressed.
“One of the people helping her said they have never seen anything like it and they were shocked at having to deal with someone in such a dreadful state.”
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries.
Miss Rippon said the attack has had a “devastating impact” on her.
Judge John Milford said the attack was an “extraordinary explosion of sexual violence” and jailed Simms, of Ivanhoe Crescent, off Durham Road, Sunderland, indefinitely.
The 29-year-old shouted foul abuse at the judge as he was told he must serve at least four years and eight months before he can even apply for parole.
The judge told him: “It is not possible to exclude further sexual violence towards females by you.
“I have no hesitation in finding you are dangerous.”
Julian Smith, defending, said Simms had been on a two-day drink and drug binge and does not remember carrying out the attack.
Mr Smith said: “He is deeply and profoundly ashamed and remorseful for all the damage he has caused.”
