A BROTHER and sister who ran out of booze during a drinking session walked into a supermarket and helped themselves to two slabs of lager.
David Carter, 21, and his 27-year-old sister Dionne stole the drink worth £16 from the Co-op in Houghton, on December 21, Sunderland magistrates heard.
The pair were identified on CCTV and were arrested and charged with theft, to which they pleaded guilty.
Willie Johnston, defending, said: “It was Christmas, both had been celebrating.
“They hadn’t seen each other for a while. At 10pm they ran out of money and alcohol.”
David, of Rhodesia Road, and Dionne, of Grindon Lane, Sunderland, were both given a conditional discharge for six months and were each told to pay £50 costs, £8 compensation and a £15 surcharge.
