Boys aged 13, 14 and 16 arrested in connection with firearm robbery on Sunderland shop

Three boys have been arrested in connection with a robbery which saw a Sunderland shopworker threatened with a firearm as the thieves snatched cash and cigarettes.

A member of the shop’s staff was threatened but unhurt in the ordeal, which saw them confronted by two raiders.

Today, Northumbria Police has confirmed two boys, one aged 13 and the other 16, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A 14-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

All three have been released on police bail as inquiries into the robbery continue.

Police appealed for help in the wake of the robbery, which saw the thieves run off in the direction of Silksworth Road after leaving the shop, with door-to-door inquiries carried out and CCTV checked as part of the investigation.

Descriptions of those involved have been released.

The first suspect was wearing a padded black jacket, black cap with a hood up and carried a backpack with a monkey motif.

The second was described as shorter, slim, wore a Puffa-style black jacket, black trainers and a face covering.
