Bogus gas man stole Seaham pensioner’s bag

AN elderly woman’s handbag was stolen when a bogus workman tricked his way into her house.

The thief claimed he was working for the gas board when he called at the lady’s home in Denehouse Road, Seaham, where she lives with her husband.

The bag containing cash and bank cards was taken during the scam, which happened at 7.30am on Saturday.

The thief is aged in his 40s or 50s, and was wearing dark clothing.
